Natick Service Council Announces $150,000 Capital Campaign for Food Pantry Expansion

NATICK, MA: April 2017

Natick Service Council (NSC) has raised $100,000 toward its capital campaign goal of $150,000 during the first phase of the campaign through grants and corporate funding. The second and public phase is slated to begin on April 17th and run until May 31st with a goal of raising $50,000.

The purpose of the capital campaign is to grow the food pantry’s capacity to serve more residents and distribute more food to those in need. The project, which is slated to begin in May and end in August, includes a new rear entrance and ramp that leads directly to the expanded and redesigned food pantry.  NSC’s food pantry operations expanded over the past year when the food rescue program was introduce and the amount of food given out increased significantly. “We went from giving away 100,000 pounds of food a year to nearly 300,000 pounds of food, mainly because of our partnership with Lovin’ Spoonfuls, an organization that rescues food and brings it to local pantries. There is a huge need to provide perishable and health food in our community as we see too many people and families struggling with food security. This expansion will help us to get more healthy food into the hands of those who need it most”, said Greg Tutuny, NSC’s Executive Director.

A Crowdrise page has been set up to help kick off the public phase of the campaign.  Stars and plaques will be prominently displayed in the new food pantry area with donor names to thank contributors starting at $100.  Those wishing to help support the new food pantry can visit www.crowdrise.com/FoodPantryExpansion or send in checks to Natick Service Council at 2 Webster Street, Natick, MA, 01760, Attn: Food Pantry Expansion.
